Piñatex

Organic material, made from pineapple leaves that result from the waste of the pineapple harvest. The fibres that are not used in Piñatex are distributed as fertilizer.

Piñatex is one of our favorite choices, developed in a project with which we have a strong connection. It was in the 1990s that Carmen Hijosa, a Spanish entrepreneur, began researching an ethical, natural and sustainable alternative to animal leather. Her research culminated in the creation of Piñatex, which inspired her doctoral thesis. Today, Ananás Anam - the owner of Piñatex - is a B Corporation certified company. The natural textile is produced in the Philippines.

It is anti-allergenic, breathable, breathable, easy to maintain and resistant.

This efficient waste management means that the production of Piñatex does not require any other environmental resources, as it uses agricultural waste. After being extracted using semi-automatic machines, the pineapple leaf fibers are washed and dried naturally by the sun, using drying ovens only during the rainy season in the Philippines.
